Anthony A Hughes (Tony) was born in 1956 in Southeastern PA. Tony began to study the guitar in 1968.

Early influences were Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, and Johnny Smith. An early teacher exposed him to a chord melody approach to playing.  Later influences are what he calls the three Joes.  That is: Joe Federico, Joe Pass, Joe Diorio; along with Jimmy Raney,  Pat Martino, and Howard Roberts.  He began listening to t
o Django Reinhardt in 1982 since 2003 he has also performed music in his style as well.  

Education


Tony Hughes was mentored by two well known students of the late Dennis Sandole. Joesph Federico and Willam J Walton. In December of 1975 he began a study with William Walton a composer , jazz and classical guitarist. Under Walton he studied Dennis Sandoles outline for improvisation until April 1984. William Walton was formerly of Atco New Jersey.   In 1988 Mr Hughes began a period of study with Joesph Federico of Pine Hill NJ. These studies were a comprehensive study of advanced plectrum techniques. Including the 24 caprices by Niccilo Paganni, Bach Paritias and Sonatas for solo violin, Solo Jazz transcriptions and advanced chordal studies. Studies with Joe Federico continued till 2006.
